Safety Description:Poison by ingestion, skin contact, and intraperitoneal routes. Moderately toxic by subcutaneous route. Mildly toxic by inhalation. Insecticides with n-butyl carbitolthiocyanate, etc., in a light petroleum base. Accidental and suicidal poisonings have occurred. Symptoms include drowsiness followed by coma, the limbs becoming flaccid, and the appearance of twitching and convulsions. The pupils may dilate and respiration may become labored. Cyanosis and vomiting occur. The lethanes are mild irritants and, in higher doses, narcotic. Can be absorbed by intact skin. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of SO_x and NO_x.
